Taichung City, Taiwan — September 6, 2025

A tragic incident occurred early Saturday morning in Taichung City after a young woman fell from a bridge into the Mayuantou River in Xitun District. Authorities reported that the victim, believed to be in her 20s, sustained critical head injuries and later died despite emergency medical efforts.

The Taichung City Fire Department received a distress call at around 6:30 a.m. reporting that a woman had fallen from a bridge near the intersection of Taiyuan Road Section 1 and Huamei West Street Section 2. Witnesses said they saw her fall from a height of about three meters before being carried away by the river’s current.

Responding to the call, the fire department mobilized a large-scale rescue operation, dispatching 14 fire trucks, two rescue boats, and 30 personnel from the 7th Brigade and Zhonggang Detachment, under the direction of Brigade Chief Lu Shiwei.

Rescuers traced the woman downstream for about three kilometers before locating her near Wuquan West Bridge in the city’s West District. She was pulled ashore and rushed to China Medical University Hospital. However, officials confirmed she had no signs of breathing or heartbeat upon rescue due to severe head trauma, and despite urgent treatment, she did not survive.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity as of press time.
