TAIWAN — The year 2025 brings a rare occurrence in the lunar calendar known as the “Double Spring and Leap June” year — featuring two “Beginnings of Spring” and a leap month in June, extending the lunar year to 13 months. In traditional folk belief, this configuration is seen as particularly auspicious. However, spiritual teacher A Gu reminds the public that certain taboos should still be observed during this rare period — especially during the leap June, which falls around the end of August on the Gregorian calendar.
Teacher A Gu likens this time to the Ghost Month, warning that the “repeating energy” of the leap month may amplify spiritual disturbances. “Breaking taboos during this month could result in bad luck doubling,” he warned in a recent post. He emphasized the importance of caution and shared four practices to avoid during the leap June period:
1. Avoid Places with Heavy Yin Energy
Spots associated with death and mourning, such as cemeteries and funeral parlors, should be avoided — especially at night. Teacher A Gu advises against late-night strolls near these areas, as they may carry heavy yin (negative) energy that can affect your well-being.
2. Do Not Touch Unidentified Spiritual Objects
Purchasing deity statues, charms, or feng shui items online or acquiring them without knowing their origin or whether they’ve been blessed is risky. A Gu strongly advises against handling or using such items casually, as they may carry unknown energy that could disrupt the household’s harmony.
3. Reconsider Moving House
If possible, postpone relocation plans until after the leap June. Although most people are wary of the seventh lunar month due to Ghost Month, A Gu explains that leap June carries similar spiritual weight, and moving during this time could invite instability.
4. Avoid Major Ceremonies
Whether it’s weddings, funerals, or ancestral sacrifices, it’s best to steer clear of large ceremonies or emotionally charged gatherings. A Gu noted that the leap month brings heightened spiritual sensitivity, and participating in such events may unknowingly attract misfortune.
Teacher A Gu concluded by reminding everyone that while 2025 may be an auspicious year overall, spiritual balance is delicate during leap months. “Always choose sacrificial offerings from trustworthy sources, preferably those that have been properly blessed,” he advised.
As the leap June approaches, those who follow traditional customs are encouraged to stay vigilant, avoid unnecessary risks, and focus on maintaining positive energy.
