The Central Weather Administration has issued a weather advisory, forecasting extreme temperatures in many parts of Taiwan this week, with some regions expected to experience hail and thunderstorms.
On Monday, western Taiwan is predicted to see temperatures soar above 36°C, while northern areas could range from 26°C to 38°C. Central and southern Taiwan may experience temperatures between 25°C and 36°C, and the eastern region is expected to be slightly cooler at 25°C to 33°C. Officials also warned that the UV index will remain high nationwide, urging the public to take necessary precautions.
On Sunday afternoon, localized hail was reported in parts of Tainan, and weather experts cautioned that brief but strong thunderstorms could hit western Taiwan Monday afternoon, with some areas possibly seeing hail again.
From Tuesday through Thursday, most of the country will experience sunny to partly cloudy skies. However, afternoon thunderstorms or heavy rain are still possible in central and southern regions. Temperatures during this period are expected to stay within 25°C to 36°C.
By Friday and over the weekend, the forecast indicates scattered showers or thunderstorms across the island, with daytime highs expected to reach around 35°C.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Kajiki, currently located near the waters off China’s Hainan Island, is not expected to affect Taiwan directly. The system is forecast to make landfall in Vietnam on Monday afternoon, according to meteorological agencies.
