August 26, 2025 – Manila, Philippines
Police General Nicolas Torre III has been removed from his post as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), following an order from the Office of the President signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
The directive, dated August 25, stated that Torre’s relief takes effect immediately. He was also instructed to oversee the orderly turnover of documents and pertinent information to ensure the continuity of police operations.
Torre assumed the top PNP post on May 29, 2025. During his brief tenure, the police organization carried out several high-profile operations, including the arrests of former president Rodrigo Duterte and religious leader Apollo Quiboloy of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.
Although Malacañang has yet to issue an official announcement, reports suggest that Police General Melencio Nartates is being tapped to take over as the new PNP chief. He is expected to focus on internal reforms and strengthen police visibility in communities.
The sudden leadership change is seen as part of the administration’s broader push for reforms within the national police force.
