House Leaders Reaffirm Support for Speaker Romualdez Amid Leadership Rumors

MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives remains united behind Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, despite persistent speculation of leadership changes.

House Deputy Speaker and La Union Representative Paolo Ortega V assured that there will be no shake-up in the chamber’s leadership, emphasizing the continued support of various political parties for the Speaker.

Ortega said House leaders, including Romualdez, Majority Floor Leader and Ilocos Norte Representative Ferdinand Alexander Marcos, and several Deputy Speakers, recently held a meeting with party leaders from Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD), Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), National Unity Party (NUP), Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), Nacionalista Party (NP), and the Party-List Foundation Inc. (PCFI).

When asked if the gathering signified renewed backing for Romualdez, Ortega noted that “the actions and images themselves are enough to show the chamber’s unity.”

He dismissed rumors of internal rifts, stressing that nothing has changed in the House leadership.

Over the past weeks, speculation has circulated about possible moves to unseat Romualdez. Ortega, however, pointed out that these talks are baseless and lack evidence.

He also brushed aside reports of a supposed “signature-gathering campaign” to install a new Speaker, saying such claims are unfounded.

“There may be calls being made to some lawmakers, but the information I have is only second-hand and without a clear source,” Ortega clarified.

With this, House leaders reiterated their commitment to maintaining stability and cooperation in the chamber under Romualdez’s leadership.
