Boulder Crushes House, Kills Dog as Storm Crising Triggers Rockslide in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY, July 19 — Torrential rains and fierce winds brought by Severe Tropical Storm “Crising” triggered a rockslide on Saturday afternoon, sending a massive boulder crashing into a house and a parked vehicle along Kennon Road in Barangay Camp 7.

The Baguio City Public Information Office, citing data from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), confirmed that the rockslide occurred at around 1:15 p.m., damaging a residential property and a vehicle in its path. Fortunately, the house had already been evacuated before the incident, preventing any injuries to its occupants.

However, responders reported that a pet dog, an exotic bully breed, was killed when the boulder struck the home.

Barangay officials, CDRRMO staff, and personnel from the Baguio City District Engineering Office promptly arrived at the scene to assess the damage and secure the area against further risks.

As of 4:00 p.m., the Department of Public Works and Highways–Cordillera announced that Kennon Road remains closed to traffic due to ongoing rockfalls, particularly near the rockshed area. Clearing operations and site inspections are underway.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as heavy rains persist in the region due to the effects of Tropical Storm Crising.
