KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan – August 23, 2025 – A man wanted for fraud was shot dead outside his residence in Zuoying District on Saturday morning, prompting a citywide police chase that led to two arrests, though the main shooter remains at large.
Authorities said the victim, identified by his surname Luo (羅), was walking his dog near his home when the attack occurred. While cleaning up after the pet, Luo was suddenly ambushed by a gunman dressed in black. The shooter opened fire, striking Luo 16 times, with bullets hitting his head, neck, and abdomen. Luo collapsed at his doorstep and died at the scene.
After the shooting, the suspect fled on foot to a nearby parking lot, crashed his getaway vehicle into a fence, and later abandoned it. Police said the gunman set fire to the white BMW sedan used in the crime in a remote area at Jiadian Street and Tianzhong Road in Qiaotou District, where there were no surveillance cameras. Two modified pistols were found inside the burned car.
The investigation quickly led police to two other individuals. At around 3:30 p.m., officers arrested a 22-year-old woman surnamed Jiang (江) in Hsinchu County, identified as the car’s lessee. Later that evening, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a 27-year-old man surnamed Cai (蔡) was taken into custody in Taoyuan City. Both were brought to Kaohsiung for questioning to determine their connection to the suspect and the victim.
The gunman remains at large, and authorities have launched a full-scale search. Police are urging the public to provide any information that could help locate the shooter.
