Martin Romualdez Nominated Unopposed as House Speaker for 20th Congress

MANILA, Philippines — Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez has been formally nominated for the speakership of the House of Representatives in the 20th Congress.

The nomination was made by Quezon 2nd District Representative Jayjay Suarez during the opening session on Monday. No other lawmakers were nominated for the position, making Romualdez the lone contender for the post.

Romualdez secured the overwhelming support of the majority bloc, reinforcing his strong hold on House leadership. As of writing, members of the chamber are casting their votes to formally affirm his election.

Romualdez, who previously served as Speaker during the 19th Congress, is expected to continue legislative priorities aligned with the Marcos administration.

His unopposed nomination reflects a consolidated support base in the lower chamber, signaling continuity and stability in the House’s leadership as the new Congress begins.
