MMDA Warns of Widespread Flooding in Metro Manila Following Heavy Rains from Habagat

MANILA, Philippines — July 22, 2025
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has issued a warning to the public on Tuesday morning regarding widespread flooding across various parts of Metro Manila, a day after torrential rains brought by the southwest monsoon (Habagat) drenched the region.

Several roads remain submerged, with some areas rendered impassable, especially to light vehicles. Below is the MMDA’s list of affected areas as of Tuesday morning:

In Manila:

  • España Boulevard (Antipolo to Lacson): Knee-deep flooding, impassable to light vehicles

  • Taft Avenue, Roxas Boulevard, Rizal Avenue: Gutter-deep, still passable

  • Palanca, Recto, UN Avenue, P. Faura: Gutter-deep, still passable

In Quezon City:

  • G. Araneta Avenue (near Maria Clara, Victory Avenue, Kaliraya): Waist- to chest-deep, not passable

  • EDSA North Avenue: Gutter-deep, still passable

In Valenzuela:

  • Malanday, Dalandanan, Marulas: Waist- to chest-deep flooding, not passable

Other Affected Areas:

  • Navotas, Malabon, Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasay: Generally gutter-deep and still passable to most vehicles

  • Parañaque (SM Sucat and Dr. A. Santos Avenue): Waist-deep, not passable

  • Las Piñas (Alabang-Zapote Road and Zapote Junction): Knee-deep, impassable to light vehicles

  • Marikina (Major Dizon Street): Not passable due to the overflowing Marikina River

  • Muntinlupa (National Road near City Hall): Half-tire deep, not passable

The MMDA advises motorists and commuters to avoid these flood-stricken areas and take alternate routes when possible. Continuous monitoring and updates will be released as the situation develops.
