Taiwan Issues Heavy Rain Alert Amid Low Pressure System and Southwesterly Winds

TAIWAN, July 9 — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued a heavy rain advisory for large parts of Taiwan as a result of a lingering low-pressure system combined with southwesterly winds. The weather disturbance is expected to bring intense and short-duration rainfall, particularly to central and southern regions.

According to the latest forecast, areas south of Hsinchu County and Lienchiang County may experience localized heavy to torrential rainfall. Meanwhile, Taoyuan and regions north of Nantou also face a risk of significant rain.

The CWA is urging the public to remain alert for lightning strikes and sudden strong gusts of wind. In addition, people in mountainous areas are advised to take extra precautions against landslides, falling rocks, mudslides, and rapidly rising streams. Residents in low-lying regions should also watch out for potential flooding.

The rain warning is in effect through this evening, with affected regions classified as follows:

  • Heavy Rainfall Expected:

    • Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Taichung City, Changhua County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, Hengchun Peninsula, and the Matsu Islands.

  • Significant Rainfall Possible:

    • Keelung’s northern coast, Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, and Nantou County.

Authorities are urging residents in these areas to stay informed, avoid unnecessary travel during intense rainfall, and prepare for potential emergencies.
