Typhoon Danas Prompts Temporary Closure of Alishan National Forest Recreation Area

Chiayi County, Taiwan – July 5, 2025 — As Typhoon Danas approaches Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration has issued a sea typhoon warning early this morning. In response to the heavy rainfall already affecting the mountainous regions of Chiayi County, authorities have taken proactive safety measures.

The Chiayi Branch of the Forestry and Conservation Agency announced that the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area will be temporarily closed starting at 8:00 a.m. on July 6. All nature trails under its management will also be closed at the same time to ensure the safety of tourists and local residents.

Based on real-time forecast data, the typhoon is expected to have its greatest impact on Taiwan between July 6 and 7. The Chiayi Branch stated that the park’s reopening will depend on when the typhoon warning is lifted and whether the environmental conditions are deemed safe. Updates and reopening announcements will be posted on the Taiwan Forest Recreation website.

In addition to Alishan, the Aogu Wetland Forest Park and Chukou Nature Education Center may also close depending on the storm’s progression. The Chiayi County Government has declared that work, classes, and public access to certain parks will be suspended if areas fall within the land typhoon warning zone.

Authorities are urging the public to avoid traveling to mountainous regions or engaging in outdoor activities such as hiking during the storm. People are advised to stay updated through official sources including the Chiayi County Government website and the Taiwan Forest Travel Network for real-time information regarding weather conditions and park closures.

As Typhoon Danas nears, local officials emphasize public safety and preparedness to mitigate the storm’s potential impact.
