MANILA, Philippines — July 22, 2025 —
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has issued a warning to the public about the rise of a new form of online scam disguised as job offers, commonly referred to as “tasking and recharging.”
According to the SEC, scammers are using popular messaging platforms to reach potential victims, luring them with seemingly legitimate job opportunities that involve completing simple online tasks. However, once individuals are hooked, the scammers begin demanding payments under the guise of “recharging” or continuing tasks, often promising higher commissions or returns.
“These scams are becoming more widespread and are designed to look like real job offers. Victims are tricked into paying fees with the hope of earning more, but in the end, they are left with nothing,” the SEC said in a statement.
The commission strongly urged the public to remain cautious and report any suspicious job offers or related schemes directly to the SEC for investigation.
“We encourage everyone to verify first before engaging in any online job opportunities, especially those that ask for money upfront,” the agency added.
The SEC reminds Filipinos that legitimate job applications should never require payment and advises the public to refer to official government or licensed job platforms for verified employment listings.
