Taiwan to Issue Record NT$58.5 Billion in Tax Refunds Starting July 31

TAIPEI, Taiwan — July 22, 2025
Taiwan’s Ministry of Finance (MOF) is set to release a record-breaking NT$58.5 billion (approx. US$2 billion) in income tax refunds on July 31, the first batch of payments for the 2024 tax season.

In a recent press statement, the ministry confirmed that around 3.62 million taxpayers will receive their refunds during this initial round. The refund process is being carried out in three phases: July 31, October 31, and January 20, 2026.

This year’s total income tax refunds are expected to reach NT$70.7 billion, covering 3.8 million cases — an increase of NT$11.7 billion compared to the previous year. The rise is attributed to adjustments in tax brackets and expanded exemptions and deductions.

Sung Hsiu-ling (宋秀玲), Director-General of the Taxation Administration, said that those who filed their taxes early or through online channels will be prioritized for the July 31 distribution, even though the filing period was extended until June 30.

Refunds will be directly deposited into the bank accounts provided by taxpayers. For those who opted for voucher refunds, physical vouchers will be mailed and must be claimed at a participating financial institution by September 30.

Sung also warned the public to stay vigilant against scams, stressing that tax offices do not make phone calls about refund notifications or ask for banking information. For any questions or concerns, taxpayers can contact the MOF’s toll-free hotline: 0800-000321.
