Kabataan Partylist, Youth Groups Hold Protest at CHR Over SC Ruling on VP Sara Duterte Impeachment

QUEZON CITY, Philippines — July 26, 2025 — Members of the Kabataan Partylist and youth groups from Southern Tagalog gathered at the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) in Diliman, Quezon City on Saturday to stage an indignation rally protesting the Supreme Court’s decision to void the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.

The rally was organized in response to the Supreme Court’s recent unanimous ruling declaring the Articles of Impeachment against Duterte unconstitutional, citing a violation of the one-year bar rule. The ruling has sparked outrage among progressive groups who claim the decision undermines accountability and shields high-ranking officials from scrutiny.

Chanting slogans and carrying placards, the demonstrators condemned what they called a “betrayal of justice,” insisting that the impeachment process was a legitimate expression of the public’s demand for accountability over Duterte’s alleged misuse of confidential funds.

“This is not just about the legal technicalities; this is about the right of the people to seek redress and hold their leaders accountable,” one protester said during the rally.

Kabataan Partylist also criticized the Supreme Court for what it described as a move that weakens democratic mechanisms and denies the youth and the Filipino people their voice in governance.

The group vowed to continue mobilizing in the streets and to support all legal avenues, including the planned motion for reconsideration, to reverse what they believe is a deeply flawed ruling.

The demonstration concluded peacefully, with organizers urging more youth to remain vigilant and involved in the democratic process.
