A magnitude 8.7 earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula at 7:25 a.m. today, triggering a tsunami warning from Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration (CWA).

Based on data from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the first tsunami waves are projected to reach Taiwan’s eastern coast at approximately 1:18 p.m. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert and avoid beaches and coastal zones.
