Typhoon Podul Disrupts Air Travel, Dozens of Flights Canceled or Diverted at Taoyuan Airport

TAOYUAN (8/13/2025)– Operations at Taoyuan International Airport were significantly affected today as Typhoon Podul brought strong winds and heavy rain to Taiwan, forcing flight cancellations and diversions. Airport officials reported that out of 663 flights scheduled for the day, 64 were canceled—including 49 passenger services and 15 cargo flights.

Passengers and those meeting travelers at the airport are advised to check the latest flight updates and confirm ground transportation arrangements in advance to avoid delays.

At 9:30 a.m., the airport convened its third emergency response meeting, chaired by Chairman Yang Wei-fu. Following updates on typhoon conditions and preparedness reports from various departments and airlines, Yang directed all units to step up vigilance, carry out preventive measures, and report any incidents immediately to safeguard operations and passenger safety.

According to the Taoyuan Aviation Weather Observatory, strong crosswinds began around 11:00 a.m., allowing most departing flights to proceed while forcing some arrivals to divert or reroute for safety. By 3:19 p.m., 26 flights had diverted due to wind shear. The airport also closed the north and south observation decks on the 5th floor of Terminal 2 from 11:50 a.m. until further notice.

Airport authorities will continue monitoring the storm closely and adjust operations as necessary to maintain safety.
