Hsinchu City, Taiwan — A 30-year-old Filipino migrant worker was rescued on Saturday afternoon, September 13, after being discovered sitting on the roof of a five-story building along Datong Road in Hsinchu City.
According to the Hsinchu City Fire Department, a call for assistance was received at around 2:00 p.m. alerting them to the man’s precarious position. Responders from the Zhongshan Fire Brigade arrived and confirmed that the individual was seated outside an iron structure on the building’s fifth floor, posing a serious risk to his safety.
Rescue efforts began immediately, with a ladder truck from the Zhuguang Fire Department deployed to the site. At around 2:25 p.m., firefighters coordinated with a fellow foreign worker from a nearby hotel to help communicate with the man. Three minutes later, rescuers successfully reached him and escorted him onto the ladder platform. By 2:37 p.m., the operation was safely completed.
The man, identified as a Filipino national, was taken to a hospital after sustaining a forehead laceration measuring about three centimeters. During questioning, he admitted that he had consumed a large amount of alcohol the night before and only realized he had woken up on a tin roof the following morning.
Authorities said police are still looking into the circumstances of the incident, particularly how he ended up in the dangerous spot.
