Hsinchu City – After months of covert surveillance and evidence gathering, the Hsinchu City Police Department’s Third Precinct has uncovered a major illegal firearms operation hidden behind the guise of a construction company. Authorities seized 13 weapons, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and even a pistol identical to the one famously used in the James Bond 007 films.
Investigators revealed that the suspects used the construction business in Hsinchu’s North District as a cover for modifying and trafficking guns. With a search warrant in hand, officers stormed the site and arrested a 54-year-old man surnamed Fu, who was found in possession of 10 modified firearms. Among the weapons were M16 rifles, MP5 submachine guns, shotguns, and pistols from well-known brands including Beretta, Taurus, and Walther.
Police also discovered 210 rounds of ammunition and a complete set of gun modification tools. One of the standout items was a Walther pistol identical to James Bond’s signature sidearm, considered a rare find.
Following additional leads, officers tracked down Fu’s 42-year-old accomplice surnamed Zheng in Baoshan Township, Hsinchu County. Zheng was caught with three pistols, 45 bullets, and five spent cartridges at his residence. Both suspects now face prosecution under Taiwan’s Firearms, Ammunition, and Knives Control Act.
Hsinchu City Police Chief Xu Songjia commended his team’s persistence, noting that the operation was part of a broader national campaign to crack down on illegal firearms.
“This case required long-term surveillance and detailed investigation. Our officers worked tirelessly day and night to track the suspects and secure evidence. Their efforts have removed dangerous weapons from our community,” Xu said.
Authorities stressed that the crackdown underscores Taiwan’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal firearms and vowed to continue nationwide efforts to keep weapons off the streets.
