Factory Fire Erupts Again in Tainan’s Rende District, Blaze Lasts Nearly Five Hours

September 29, 2025 | Tainan

A massive fire broke out late Sunday night at an acrylic factory on Zhongzheng West Road in Rende District, Tainan, marking the second industrial blaze in the area within just four days.

According to the Tainan City Fire Department, the fire was reported at 9:35 p.m. on September 28 after passersby noticed flames spreading rapidly through the one-story steel-structured factory. Initial response teams dispatched 31 fire trucks and 62 personnel, later reinforced by additional detachments. In total, 35 vehicles and 128 police officers and volunteer firefighters were mobilized.

The blaze proved difficult to contain, with flames shooting through the roof and thick smoke visible as far as the Provincial Highway 86 Expressway. At around 10:30 p.m., the tin roof collapsed, prompting the urgent use of heavy machinery to prevent further spread. Firefighting robots were deployed at the scene, though drones could not be used due to airspace restrictions near Tainan Airport.

By 11:00 p.m., firefighters had managed to bring the situation under control, but the fire continued to smolder and spread to an adjacent environmental engineering company. The flames were finally extinguished at 2:14 a.m. on September 29, nearly five hours after the outbreak.

Authorities reported that the blaze consumed an estimated 1,560 square meters of factory space, including roughly two tons of crude oil, heavy oil, and other stored materials. Neighboring buildings also suffered fire damage. Fortunately, with operations halted during the long holiday, no casualties were recorded.

This incident comes just days after another factory fire erupted on the same road on September 25, sparking concern among local residents. The exact cause of the latest fire remains under investigation, and officials said damage assessments are ongoing.
