TAITUNG – August 13, 2025 – Typhoon Podul made landfall in Taimali, Taitung, at noon today, bringing destructive winds and heavy rains to the region. Gusts in Taitung City reached up to force 11, toppling structures, damaging property, and causing unusual scenes along the coast.
In downtown Taitung, the intense winds shattered an entire section of floor-to-ceiling windows at a chain convenience store, leaving employees shocked and scrambling for safety.
The Jinlun Ocean Music Festival, originally scheduled to take place in Taimali Township on the 16th, suffered severe damage before crews could dismantle the main stage. Powerful waves battered the venue, inundating the site and sweeping away equipment.
At Fugang Fishing Harbor, the typhoon’s strength was further highlighted when a supposedly secure, shore-based typhoon-proof rubber raft fishing boat was blown off its mooring and onto the road, creating the bizarre sight of vessels stranded on land.
Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors and away from coastal areas until the storm passes, warning that strong winds, high waves, and further property damage remain possible throughout the day.
