Chiayi County (8/18/2025)— A motorist who stopped along Highway 163 in Chiayi to relieve himself ended up with more than just temporary relief. Surveillance footage captured by the Chiayi County Environmental Protection Bureau not only identified the driver’s vehicle but also documented what appeared to be public urination, resulting in a fine and a viral moment online.
The images, shared widely on social media, show a man standing in a roadside drainage ditch next to a white truck. The Environmental Protection Bureau confirmed that the act violated Article 27, Paragraph 7 of the Waste Disposal Act, which prohibits public urination and defecation. Offenders face fines ranging from NT$1,200 to NT$6,000.
What drew even more attention, however, was the clarity of the surveillance photos. Netizens flooded comment sections with mocking remarks such as, “High resolution—even the details are captured!”, “An expensive pee,” “Both the driver and his wallet suffered,” and “Everyone recognizes that posture.”
Authorities reminded the public that such behavior not only violates sanitation laws but also risks becoming an embarrassing spectacle if caught on surveillance cameras. The Environmental Protection Bureau emphasized its commitment to maintaining cleanliness and order, urging drivers to use proper rest facilities instead of relieving themselves on public roadsides.
