August 25, 2025 – Taipei, Taiwan
Taipei police confirmed the brief detention of 26-year-old American content creator Jacob Pugmire, who was taken into custody on Friday and released the following day. The arrest stemmed from an incident in January when Pugmire stayed overnight inside Yangmei Train Station in Taoyuan while on a walking tour around Taiwan.
According to the Tamsui Police Precinct, Pugmire, who works as a model and fitness entrepreneur in Taiwan, shared videos of himself resting in the station after receiving inaccurate advice online that such behavior was allowed. The stationmaster later filed a complaint, leading to charges of trespassing under Article 306 of Taiwan’s Criminal Code.
Authorities said Pugmire missed a scheduled court appearance in August, resulting in a warrant for his arrest. His location was discovered when officers spotted him livestreaming along Taipei’s Zhongxiao East Road.
Police detained him and handed him over to the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office. After questioning, he was released on Saturday. The case remains under review.
