Unexploded Bomb Found Near TSMC Construction Site in Kaohsiung

September 12, 2025 — Kaohsiung, Taiwan — An unexploded bomb was discovered late Friday morning at a construction site near the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) plant in the Nanzi Industrial Park, authorities confirmed.

The ordnance was spotted by a contractor from the city government’s New Works Department during excavation work in the CPC barrel tank area outside the facility. The discovery prompted an immediate alert to the Kaohsiung City Government, which then coordinated with the Army’s 8th Corps for assistance.

A military unexploded ordnance disposal team was quickly dispatched to the site. Upon inspection, the device was identified as the remnant of an early air-dropped bomb. Officials said the shell was heavily corroded, with its material and batch number unrecognizable.

According to the 8th Corps Command, the bomb posed no immediate danger to the surrounding area. It was safely transferred to a secure warehouse and will be destroyed following standard disposal procedures.

City officials assured the public that the situation was under control and emphasized that there was no threat to residents or nearby industrial operations.
