Miaoli County — September 13, 2025. A van unexpectedly burst into flames while waiting at a red light in Zhunan City at noon today (September 13), sending six migrant workers scrambling to safety. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
According to police, the incident occurred at 12:15 p.m. at the busy intersection of Guangfu Road and Zhongzheng Road. Witnesses said the van, which had stopped at the light, suddenly began emitting thick white smoke before fire engulfed the front of the vehicle.
As the intersection is close to the Zhunan Police Station, officers quickly arrived on-site, immediately cordoning off the area and directing traffic to prevent further accidents. Firefighters joined shortly after, extinguishing the blaze by 12:36 p.m. The burned vehicle was later towed away, and traffic flow was restored by 1:00 p.m.
The driver, surnamed Liao, told authorities that he was stopped at the intersection when he noticed smoke coming from the engine. He explained that the vehicle was a second-hand van his company had recently acquired, and he was unaware of any existing issues.
The six migrant workers, all legally employed at a local electronics factory, were riding back to their dormitory during their lunch break when the fire broke out. Although shaken by the sudden incident, all managed to exit safely.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
