Body of Taichung Woman Found on Hengchun Beach After Dispute With Partner

September 14, 2025 | Pingtung County, Taiwan

A 37-year-old woman from Taichung, surnamed Liao, was found dead on the morning of September 14 along the beach on Dawan Road in Hengchun Township, Pingtung County, near the Babao Princess Temple.

Authorities reported that Liao was wearing white shorts and a striped shirt when she was discovered. She had light bleeding from her mouth and nose but no visible external injuries. A room card from a Kenting guesthouse and one slipper were found nearby. Firefighters and police confirmed she showed no signs of life, ruling out foul play. Initial findings suggest either suicide or an accident, though the exact cause of death is still under investigation.

Investigators traced the room key back to a Kenting B&B where Liao had checked in with her partner, surnamed Zhuang, on September 13. Surveillance footage showed the couple arriving together around 11:00 a.m. appearing normal. However, after drinking, the two reportedly argued. Around midnight, Liao was seen leaving the guesthouse alone and walking toward the beach.

Zhuang later told authorities that he remembered the argument but believed Liao had simply gone out to cool off. He said he was devastated to learn of her death the next morning, telling police, “I didn’t know she went to the beach. I never thought this would happen.”

The beach where she was found is only a few hundred meters away from the guesthouse. Police suspect that emotional distress may have led her to walk there alone. Whether she drowned accidentally or took her own life remains unclear.

Authorities reminded the public that anyone facing emotional difficulties or serious disputes should immediately seek help from family, friends, or local support services to prevent similar tragedies.
