CMA Forecast: Hot Weather Continues, Afternoon Thunderstorms Expected in the South

Taipei (September 30, 2025)— The Central Meteorological Administration (CMA) reported that Taiwan will see mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies on Tuesday, September 30. However, short-lived afternoon thunderstorms are expected in the south and in mountainous regions nationwide, with the possibility of heavy downpours in central and southern highland areas. The public is advised to carry umbrellas and remain alert to sudden weather changes.

Daytime temperatures are forecast to range between 31 and 36 degrees Celsius, with some districts in Greater Taipei likely surpassing 36 degrees. Overnight lows will hover around 25 to 27 degrees. Forecasters also cautioned that ultraviolet radiation will peak at “excessive” levels around midday across Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu. Residents are urged to apply sun protection and drink plenty of water to avoid heat-related risks.

Air Quality Outlook

According to the Environmental Protection Administration’s monitoring, air quality is generally “good” in Yilan, Hualien-Taitung, Matsu, and Penghu. Conditions in northern Taiwan, Hsinchu-Miaoli, central Taiwan, Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan, Kaohsiung-Pingtung, and Kinmen are classified as “moderate,” though certain areas in the north and central regions may briefly reach the orange alert level.

Extended Forecast

From Wednesday (October 1) through Thursday (October 2), strong Pacific high pressure will maintain sunny to partly cloudy skies, with afternoon thundershowers still likely in the south and in mountain areas.

Between Friday (October 3) and Saturday (October 4), moisture moving in from the south may bring scattered showers or thunderstorms to eastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula. Elsewhere, skies will remain mostly clear, with brief thundershowers confined to southern Taiwan and mountainous terrain in the afternoons.

From Sunday (October 5) to Monday (October 6), conditions will stabilize further as moisture decreases, bringing predominantly clear skies across the island. Only isolated showers are expected in Hengchun and brief afternoon thunderstorms in central and southern mountains.
