Taiwan Plans NT$10,000 Cash Payment for Every Eligible Person in 2027
TAIPEI, Taiwan (October 8, 2026)— Taiwan’s Ministry of Finance is preparing a plan to distribute NT$10,000 in cash to eligible residents under the proposed 2027 central government budget, with the government saying the measure is intended to allow the public to share in the economic benefits generated by the country’s rapidly growing artificial intelligence (AI) sector.
The government has set aside approximately NT$235.7 billion for the nationwide cash distribution. The Ministry of Finance said the allocation follows three key principles: government programs should not be compromised, the measure should not require additional borrowing in real terms, and the budget process must comply with legal and constitutional requirements.
Payment Could Begin Before Lunar New Year
The actual distribution schedule will depend on when the Legislative Yuan approves the 2027 central government budget and when the president formally promulgates it.
If lawmakers pass the budget by early January 2027 and the president approves it by around January 20, the government estimates that eligible residents could begin receiving the NT$10,000 payment as early as January 26, 2027, potentially before the Lunar New Year holiday.
For most eligible recipients, the collection period is expected to remain open until August 31, 2027.
Who Could Receive the NT$10,000?
The Ministry of Finance is planning to largely follow the eligibility rules used in previous nationwide cash distributions.
Potential beneficiaries include:
- Taiwanese citizens with household registration in Taiwan
- Nationals without household registration who hold valid residence permits
- Foreign nationals with permanent residence status
- Spouses of Taiwanese citizens from Hong Kong, Macau, or other countries who have obtained residence permits
- Government employees stationed overseas for official duties and their Taiwanese-national dependents
The final eligibility rules will depend on the government’s completed implementation guidelines.
Five Ways to Receive the Payment
The government is considering five payment methods, similar to previous cash distribution programs:
- Online registration and bank deposit
- ATM cash withdrawal
- Withdrawal through post offices
- Automatic direct deposit
- Distribution through government-prepared beneficiary lists
Authorities are expected to release more detailed instructions once the necessary budget procedures are completed.
Newborn Babies Also Included
The government is also considering extending the benefit to babies born in Taiwan during 2027 as part of its family-friendly policy.
Under the proposed arrangement, babies born between August 1 and December 31, 2027 would have until January 31, 2028 to receive the payment.
This would allow families with newborn children to benefit from the planned cash distribution even if the babies are born later in the year.
Government Links Payment to AI-Driven Economic Growth
The Ministry of Finance said Taiwan’s strong AI-related industries have contributed to economic expansion and higher tax revenues. The proposed cash distribution is therefore being presented as a way for the broader population to share in the economic gains associated with the country’s technology-driven growth.
However, officials emphasized that the payment will only proceed after the required legislative and constitutional procedures have been completed.
Public Warned About Possible Scams
The Ministry of Finance also urged the public to remain cautious about fake announcements, fraudulent websites, and scam messages related to the NT$10,000 payment.
Officials advised people not to provide personal or banking information through suspicious links or unofficial channels. Anyone who encounters a potentially fraudulent message or website can contact Taiwan’s 165 Anti-Fraud Hotline for assistance.
Important: The proposed payment schedule is not yet final and depends on the approval and promulgation of the 2027 central government budget. Residents should wait for official government announcements before attempting to register or claim the payment.
