Trump Backs Subic Ammunition Hub; Marcos Says It Aligns with Defense Strategy
July 23, 2025
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed strong support for the planned construction of an ammunition hub in Subic, Zambales, saying it would strengthen the defense posture of both the Philippines and the United States, as well as benefit allied nations in the Indo-Pacific region.
Trump emphasized that the project is a strategic move to enhance regional security and ensure access to critical military supplies. He confirmed that the U.S. Congress has already approved the necessary funding for the development of the facility.
“This ammunition hub is a key element in ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific,” Trump said.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. welcomed the initiative, stating that the project supports the Philippines’ Self-Reliant Defense Posture (SRDP) program. The SRDP seeks to enhance the country’s ability to maintain and develop its own defense systems with less reliance on foreign suppliers.
The ammunition hub is expected to serve as a logistics and storage facility to support joint military operations, improve regional readiness, and contribute to national defense modernization.
Further details on the timeline and scope of the project are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
