A fatal road accident occurred this morning in Wanli District, New Taipei City, when a gravel truck lost control and collided with a Kuo-Kuang bus along Zhongfu Road at around 7:50 AM.

A 39-year-old male passenger, identified only by his surname You, was rushed to Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment but was later pronounced dead.

Initial police reports revealed that the gravel truck skidded, hit a roadside guardrail, and veered into the opposite lane. The oncoming Kuo-Kuang bus attempted to stop abruptly to avoid a collision, but was struck moments later.

The impact caused more than 10 people to sustain injuries, including both drivers. Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to the scene to assist and transport the injured to nearby hospitals.

Adding to the danger, hundreds of steel bars being carried by the truck were scattered across the road. Authorities noted that, fortunately, none of the steel bars penetrated the bus or nearby vehicles, which helped prevent a potentially greater tragedy.

The accident is still under investigation, and authorities are working to determine whether mechanical failure, driver error, or road conditions contributed to the crash.
