Sec. Jonvic: No Apologies for Humor Amid Class Suspension Updates

MANILA, Philippines — July 23, 2025 — Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla stood firm on his unapologetic and humorous communication style despite recent criticism over his social media posts regarding class suspensions due to inclement weather.

In a statement posted under the official DILG Philippines branding, Sec. Jonvic addressed online backlash, stating:

“Ang daming letga. Pasensya na, pero hindi na ako magbabago ng ugali.”
(“So much anger. Sorry, but I’m not going to change my ways.”)

He added that if his jokes were deemed inappropriate, people should take note that he never cursed, belittled, or insulted anyone.

“Wala rin akong binola o sinabing kasinungalingan. A little humor never hurt anyone.”
(“I didn’t lie or exaggerate. A little humor never hurt anyone.”)

The DILG chief also asked the public to standby for official class suspension announcements, assuring that the agency has complete data from DOST-PAGASA. He ended his message with a playful tone:

“In other words, ABANG lang kayo.” (In other words, just stay tuned.)

The statement sparked mixed reactions online, with some netizens appreciating the humor, while others criticized the perceived informality of a high-ranking government official’s communication during a serious situation.

Despite the clamor, Secretary Jonvic remains unbothered, focusing instead on timely and accurate advisories related to public safety.
