Sen. Ping Lacson: Senate Must Respect Supreme Court Decision on VP Sara Impeachment

MANILA – Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson has emphasized the need to respect the ruling of the Supreme Court regarding the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, even if it contradicts the opinion of some legal experts.

In a statement, Lacson pointed out that the Constitution clearly outlines the impeachment process and that the High Court’s decision must be observed.

“The filing of a verified complaint by at least one-third of all the members of the House of Representatives shall constitute the Articles of Impeachment, and trial by the Senate shall forthwith proceed,” Lacson said, quoting the relevant provision of the law.

His remarks come amid public debates and legal commentaries questioning the Supreme Court’s ruling, which dismissed the impeachment complaint against Vice President Duterte. Critics have raised concerns about the implications of the decision on the system of checks and balances.

Despite these concerns, Lacson reminded fellow lawmakers and the public that adherence to the rule of law and respect for the judiciary are essential to upholding democratic institutions.

The Supreme Court has yet to issue a detailed explanation addressing the broader public reaction to its ruling.
