Taoyuan City, Taiwan — July 27, 2025
A disturbing incident unfolded in Zhongzheng Park, Guishan District last night, where a 40-year-old intoxicated man surnamed Lin violently assaulted a 10-year-old boy he had never met. The unprovoked attack left the child with multiple bruises and in severe emotional distress. Authorities swiftly responded, arresting the suspect and initiating a child protection protocol.
According to the Guishan Police, the incident occurred at around 6:50 p.m. on Ziqiang North Road. Upon receiving the emergency call, officers rushed to the scene and, with the help of bystanders, subdued the suspect. Lin was brought to the station for further investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed that Lin, under the influence of alcohol, suddenly lost control and began physically assaulting the young boy in the park. The child suffered abrasions and bruises to his face, shoulders, neck, and arms, with Lin reportedly grabbing and pulling the boy’s limbs in a violent manner.
The boy’s father, shocked and enraged by the senseless attack, immediately filed a formal complaint. The case has since been handed over to the Taoyuan District Prosecutor’s Office for further investigation under charges of physical assault and child abuse in accordance with Taiwan’s Criminal Code.
Police confirmed that Lin has a history of causing disturbances while intoxicated, raising concerns about repeated violent behavior. To address this, authorities have:
-
Notified the local social welfare department to initiate child protection protocols;
-
Recommended that prosecutors consider detaining the suspect;
-
Increased police patrols in the vicinity of Zhongzheng Park to ensure public safety;
-
Proposed alcohol addiction treatment for Lin as a preventive measure.
Officials condemned the attack and stressed the importance of public vigilance. “No child should be subjected to such violence. We are committed to ensuring the child’s safety and preventing further incidents like this,” a Guishan police representative stated.
The child is currently recovering and is under close monitoring by both his family and social services.
