Perci Cendaña of Akbayan Urges Marcos to Address Wage Hike, Disaster Response in SONA

MANILA, Philippines — Akbayan Party-list Representative Perci Cendaña has expressed hope that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will tackle pressing issues such as wage increases and government disaster response during his upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA).

In a statement ahead of the SONA, Cendaña called on the President to deliver a clear and substantial message that reflects the real needs of ordinary Filipinos.

“Nananawagan tayo na gawing simple yung SONA… pero sana huwag tipirin ‘yung taumbayan,” said the lawmaker, emphasizing that the Filipino people deserve more than just vague promises or superficial speeches.

Cendaña highlighted the urgent need for policies that would uplift workers and ensure swift, efficient response to natural calamities, especially in light of the worsening climate crisis and economic challenges.

He added that while a straightforward SONA is welcome, it should not come at the cost of meaningful content and concrete commitments from the country’s highest leader.

The President is set to deliver his address before a joint session of Congress, outlining his administration’s accomplishments and legislative priorities moving forward.
