Taiwan High-Speed Rail Announces Record Discounts and Additional Services for Upcoming Holiday Travel Surge

August 22, 2025 – Taipei, Taiwan

With Teacher’s Day, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day falling on three consecutive weeks this year, Taiwan High-Speed Rail (THSR) is gearing up for an unprecedented wave of holiday travel. To meet the anticipated surge in passenger demand, THSR has rolled out several measures to give travelers more options, flexibility, and savings.

Early Ticket Sales for Three Major Holidays
Tickets for the entire holiday period will be released at once, allowing passengers to plan ahead. Starting at 12:00 a.m. on Friday, August 29, travelers can book tickets for trips scheduled between September 26 and October 13—a span of 18 days covering all three holidays, including October 1 and October 8.

Unprecedented 50% Early Bird Discount
THSR will offer its biggest discount yet, cutting fares by up to 50% for off-peak hours. The number of discounted seats has been significantly expanded, with about 150,000 early-bird tickets available across 965 discounted train services. These seats are expected to sell quickly, so passengers are encouraged to book early.

More Free-Seating Cars During Peak Hours
To ease congestion, THSR will increase the number of free-seating cars on its popular Nangang-Taichung shuttle trains. During peak times, nine cars (cars 1-4 and 8-12) will be designated for non-reserved seating, offering 54 additional shuttle services—24 southbound and 30 northbound—over the holiday period.

Peak Travel Times Identified
The busiest travel windows are expected on the afternoons and evenings before each holiday (September 26, October 3, and October 9), the return days (September 29, October 6, and October 12), and the mornings of the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day (October 4 and October 10). THSR advises passengers with reserved tickets to avoid these times if possible.

Additional Trains and Customer Support
To accommodate the crowds, THSR will operate an extra 236 trains—115 southbound and 121 northbound—bringing the total number of services during the 18-day period to 3,109. Additional staff will be stationed at platforms to assist passengers and maintain orderly boarding.

Flexible Booking and Member Rewards
Tickets can be purchased via the THSR website, ticket counters, vending machines, partner convenience stores, or the T-EX mobile app. Reserved-seat discounts will be sold on a tiered basis: 50% off first, followed by 20% and 10% discounts, after which full fares apply. THSR’s TGo members who purchase early-bird or student tickets during this period will receive 50% bonus reward points on eligible trips.

Maintaining Other Discounts
In addition to the early-bird deals, THSR will continue offering other promotions, including student discounts, cardholder savings, and business class upgrade options during off-peak hours.

THSR encourages passengers to book as early as possible, check online for available trains, and pick up tickets in advance to ensure a smoother travel experience during the busy holiday season.
