Typhoon Bavi Causes Power Outages in Northern Taipei, Over 3,100 Households Restored
Taipei, Taiwan – July 11, 2026 — Moderate Typhoon Bavi brought strong winds to northern Taiwan on Saturday, causing power outages across several areas in Shilin District, Beitou District, and Tamsui after trees fell onto electrical lines.
According to Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) – Taipei North District Office, a total of 3,313 households experienced power interruptions as Typhoon Bavi swept through the region.
Emergency repair crews were immediately deployed, and as of 11:00 a.m., electricity had been restored to more than 3,103 households. Repair operations continue in the remaining affected areas, particularly in Beitou and Tamsui, where restoration work is still underway.
Fallen Trees Slow Restoration Efforts
Taipower said wind gusts reaching Force 10 to 11 caused numerous roadside trees and branches to collapse onto power lines, damaging electrical infrastructure and complicating repair efforts.
The utility company explained that in some locations, repair crews must wait for local government teams to remove fallen trees before they can safely restore damaged power lines.
Officials asked affected residents for patience and understanding while emergency crews work to reconnect electricity as quickly as conditions allow.
Critical Infrastructure Prioritized
Taipower also expressed appreciation to residents, community leaders, and elected officials who provided outage reports and monitored restoration efforts during the storm.
The company explained that power restoration follows a priority system designed to restore electricity efficiently and safely. Repair crews first focus on major substations, followed by primary distribution lines and then branch lines. Essential public services—including metro systems, railways, water supply facilities, and telecommunications infrastructure—are given priority before residential areas.
Taipower said additional personnel have been deployed to accelerate restoration efforts and minimize the impact of Typhoon Bavi on affected communities.
